Had you asked me even two years ago if you thought I would become a poet, I would have probably smiled at you and said “no, I don’t think I could do anything like that…”
Now? I’m a 24-year-old poet and writing workshop facilitator.
What happened?

The story so far…
While I dabbled with poetry and songwriting through school (with some of those pieces being worked into my first book), it was my decision to leave dental school after 3-and-a-half years that catalysed my metamorphosis. I’d been left physically and emotionally drained by a system that didn’t care about helping patients actually take hold of their health, and I felt powerless to stand up and speak to the failings I was seeing.
I was struggling to make sense of an increasingly nonsensical world. With a nebula of thoughts swirling around my head, I began writing. Firstly it was articles, many of which you can still find in my ‘Reflections’ tab. My healing and sensemaking truly began when I began writing poetry, taking the raw experiences and ideas of my life so far and creating something new from them. Following a few pieces created for Over To The Youth, I released “What Do I Want For Christmas?” in December 2023, which decided to go viral amongst communities of activists and sovereignty advocates.
I was humbled by the messages that I got from those the poem graced. That’s when I realised my words have power - that I have something meaningful to say in the world. So I continued writing and continued sharing…
… and that brings us to today!
Be part of the next chapter!
Every two weeks, I release a poem or poem-essay hybrid, along with pertinent reflections and announcements. I also publish the occasional non-poetry piece in the in-between weeks, or share an older piece with some new insights.
I’d love for you to join the community as a subscriber and help support my work. As a free subscriber, you’ll get my latest pieces sent straight to their email inbox and a free digital copy of my poetry book Born Anew and Other Poems when they you sign up.
Sounds good, right?

That’s awesome, but I have no money right now.

Finally…
Thank you for finding me on this little corner of the internet and taking the time to learn more about me. I deeply appreciate it, and I hope my other poems and offerings can provide deep value to you, in a way that only poetry can.
Wim Hof says that:
Poetry is the language of the soul. So listen.
I couldn’t agree with him more.
With gratitude,
Tom
