In addition to propaganda, I am reminded of the "computer says no" phenomenon, where one of the sad side effects of our technologized world is when humans can't even get together to accomplish a goal (say, closing a bank account) because "computer says no." In some ways, we have become slaves to our software, and forget that it's supposed to serve humankind, not be the final dictator of what is and isn't possible.
